woman&home, IPC Southbank’s monthly glossy for 40-plus women, has appointed David Dowding as its new creative director and Gaby Huddart as its new deputy editor.

Dowding is currently art director of modern homes magazine Livingetc. He has also worked at Cosmopolitan as art director and was on the launch team for Maxim in Russia.

Huddart joins woman&home from Square Meal, the leading London restaurant guide and website, which she has edited for the past six years.

She has 17 years experience in journalism and has written extensively on business, travel, food and celebrity profiles for numerous publications, including The Times, the Evening Standard, Harpers & Queen and woman&home.

Sue James, editorial director, said: “I am delighted to have appointed two very talented people who I know will work brilliantly with my strong editorial team to continue to innovate the woman&home brand.”

Dowding said: “I am really excited about taking on the role as creative director at woman&home. This is both a challenging and fascinating time in the women’s lifestyle sector, and I’m looking forward to working with Sue James and her experienced team in developing all aspects of this incredibly strong brand.”

Huddart added: “I am thrilled to be joining the woman&home team at such an exciting time and as the magazine is going from strength to strength. I can’t wait to learn from Sue James, someone I admire hugely, and to work with the experienced team.”

Dowding joins as creative director on August 6 and Huddart starts as deputy editor on August 13.

In July to December 2004 woman&home recorded an ABC of 332,646, which had dropped to 316,034 by the same period last year (see ABC Results Jul-Dec 2006:Glamour Leads Women’s Monthlies As Real Bows Out).

The last ABC consumer magazines release showed that several of the titles in the women’s monthly sector were down year on year.

Candis was down by over 3.5% year on year, whilst Marie Claire was down by almost 10% year on year.

In May, woman&home appointed Pippa Jackson as editor of its website www.womanandhome.com (see Woman&home Gets New Website Editor).

This followed the launch of a travel size version of the magazine, available exclusively in WHSmith Travel outlets (see Woman & Home Launches Travel Size).
