The oestrogen-soaked Big Brother house appears to have turned off some viewers, with last night’s second episode of series eight of the long-running reality show attracting an average of more than 3.4 million adults, compared to Wednesday night’s 5.3 million.
However, a drop in viewers for the first ‘proper’ episode is historically the trend for the programme, which gained the channel an average audience share of 19.3%, and a peak viewing figure of more than 3.9 million adults in the second half of the show.
BBC One’s Hustle, on between 9pm and 10pm, drew in more than 4.3 million adults on average, as the team tried to pull off another heist and wriggle out of various sticky situations.
The programme gained a 20.5% viewing share, compared to ITV1’s 16.6% for The Last Detective. The final episode in the crime drama series, which starred former Doctor Who Peter Davison, was seen by more than 3.4 million adults on average across its hour and a half running time.
Prior to Big Brother on C4, a documentary revealing the real story of Charles and Camilla’s relationship, Queen Camilla, was watched by an average of almost 2.5 million adults (11.8%), whilst Five’s top US imports House and Shark attracted almost 1.9 million (9%) and more than 1.3 million (7.3%) on average respectively.
