Emap And Chrysalis To Share Programming

Digital Radio Emap and Chrysalis are in discussions over sharing their programming across their two dance music networks, Kiss and Galaxy, in an effort to challenge the BBC for younger listeners.

Kiss and Galaxy already share the Sunday dance and R&B chart, the Fresh 40, which launched on the stations last year.

Chrysalis Radio group head of programming, Pete Simmons, told MediaGuardian: “We are talking at management and programme director level, both commercially and in terms of programme content.

“We won’t be sharing a breakfast show Monday to Friday, but there are other ways we can complete with the BBC.

“The figures for Kiss and Galaxy are great at the moment. People talk about kids not listening to radio anymore and it’s just not true.”

Kiss relaunched last September (see Kiss Unveils New Logo Ahead Of Expansion), and broadcasts on three analogue stations in London, Bristol and East Anglia.

Galaxy broadcasts on four analogue stations in Manchester, Birmingham, Yorkshire and the North East.

At the last RAJARs, for Q4 2006, the Kiss stations had a 1.6% share of listening, whilst Galaxy (including its digital stations) had a 1.9% share. BBC Radio 1 had a 9.7% share (see BBC Stations Continue To Perform Well).

Last week it was reported that Emap could be in discussions with Channel 4 about joining the 4Radio bid for the second national digital mutliplex (see Emap Could Join 4Radio Second Multiplex Bid).
