WAN To Develop Measurement Standard For Digital And Print Newspapers

Newspapers The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) has launched a new initiative aimed at developing a new measurement standard for newspaper readership across print and digital.

It has set up a Media Measurement Integration Task Force to explore the possibility of creating a global standard for combined print and digital measurements.

The task force’s first project will be to survey hundreds of media buyers worldwide about their need for a global print and digital metric, now and in the future.

The results of the survey will identify ways agencies and newspaper companies can work together more effectively in buying newspaper advertising across platforms.

The task force will meet in New York in June to discuss proposed global newspaper and digital currency standards, the results of the survey, and a strategy to adress agency needs in cross-media measurement.

Amongst those present at the first task force meeting, held in Chicago, were Chris Boyd, chief executive of ABC, and Richard Foan, managing director of ABC Electronic.

Last September, Boyd said that at there was no call from media buyers in Britain for audited data across various platforms to be provided on a net basis (see Cross-Platform Net ABC Measure Not Yet Needed In UK).

MediaTel.co.uk has now added a new report, which allows subscribers to access a publication’s print and online audience data in one table.

The new service allows users to select newspapers and/or magazines, and see the circulation of the publication (ABC, VFD, BDP or BPA) alongside the number of unique users and page impressions for the publication’s website (ABCe audited, NNR or publisher’s statement).

Trends in the number of unique users or page impressions are available for each website.

The report can be found in both the Online and Press databases and is called ‘Combined Press/Online Figures’. For help running reports or logging on to MediaTel.co.uk please call our helpdesk on 020 7439 7575.
