Johnny Vaughan Is Number One In London

Breakfast Radio This analysis is comparing the weekly reach of the breakfast shows of the London stations and not the time slots. Heart 106.2 FM’s and Magic 105.4’s breakfast shows currently run from 6am-9am, while 95.8 Capital Radio’s runs from 6am-10am.

Johnny Vaughan’s 95.8 Capital Radio breakfast show remained on top in Q3 2008, with a weekly reach of just under 990,000 listeners, following a period on period increase of 4.6%.

Vaughan’s co-host, Denise Van Outen left the breakfast show just six months into her contract at the end of July – she was replaced by Lisa Snowdon a month later (see Lisa Snowdon Steps Into Van Outen’s Shoes At Capital).

95.8 Capital Radio added an extra half an hour to its breakfast show running time in Q1, following on from the half an hour increase in Q4 2007. The show now runs for four hours.

Magic 105.4’s breakfast show reported significant year on year and period on period downturns of 17.3% and 15.7% respectively.

However, it still remains the second most listened to commercial breakfast show in London, with a weekly reach of just over 730,000 listeners.

Heart 106.2 FM was in a similar position, falling 9% this period alone, to below 770,000 listeners.

Heart 106.2 and Magic 105.4’s breakfast shows both run for a total of three hours.

Kiss 100 FM’s breakfast show saw a small dip this period, down by just under 1%, leaving its reach at around 580,000 listeners.

Kiss 100 launched its first major marketing campaign for The Rickie and Melvin Breakfast Show across London in June, as part of Bauer’s £1.5 million investment in to the radio station over the summer (see Kiss 100 Kick Starts A New Breakfast Show Campaign).

Gold London’s breakfast show displayed a strong recovery from last quarter, increasing its listeners by 45.4% period on period to over 140,000. However, it is still 33% under its listener level of one year ago.
