September was a bad month all round, with across the board falls in revenue intake. Worst hit was ITV1 network, which saw its revenue fall by 21.8% year on year to stand at £106.39 million.

The next biggest fall was seen by Channel 4, down to £ 54.51 million (20% on last year’s figures).

Five saw its monthly revenue for September slip by 12% year on year, posting a revenue total of £25.32 million.

Total Satellite saw its revenue total decrease by 1.2% compared to September 2007, to stand at £94.94 million

ITV Franchises

According to our agency estimates Central hangs onto its position as greatest share provider of ITV1 revenue. The Midland franchise area took 16.08% share of the network’s total revenue.

The next biggest share was London weekday franchise area Carlton’s 15.86%. This was the biggest year on year increase amongst ITV franchise areas (up by 1.51 percentage points).

Westcountry provided the smallest share of ITV1’s revenue, with 2.06% of the network’s total income.

Costs Per Thousand

As was the case last month, all of ITV1’s costs per thousands were cheaper among our featured audiences during September. The audience that had the greatest year on year decrease was Women, down by 22.3% to cost £11.02.

Channel 4’s cost per thousands price also decreased across all our featured audiences. ABC1 Adults recorded the biggest reduction in price, down by 31.2% to cost £19.22

Five saw all of our featured audiences decrease in CPT price. The biggest CPT price fall came from Housewives with Children, 28.1% cheaper when compared to September 2007.

Commercial Impacts

All but two of our featured audiences fell or remained stagnant for ITV1 amongst commercial impacts. The two audiences that increased their year on year totals were Women and Housewives with Children, both up 0.1% year on year.

Channel 4 saw an across the board upturn in commercial impacts during September 2008, the biggest rise a three way split between Women, Housewives with Children and ABC1 Adults (up by 1.6% year on year).

Five also saw commercial impacts improve across all our featured audiences. The best performance came from ABC1 Adults, improving by 2.3% on September 2007.

All of our featured audiences managed to improve on the previous year’s figures for Total Broadcast. As was the case with Five the best performance came from ABC1 Adults, up 2.2% year on year.
