The Economist has appointed Phil Cutts, former head of marketing at the PPA, to head of research in its ad marketing division.
Cutts will be responsible for the news magazine’s syndicated surveys and online reader panels, working closely with the sales team, and reporting directly to the head of operations Alan Dunachie.
His role at the PPA was made redundant, along with several others, this summer following the arrival of the new chief executive, Jonathan Shepherd.
Cutts spent 19 years at the PPA and was also a board director of the NRS and one of the founding members of FIPP’s international research committee.
His previous role included promoting the magazine industry through events, research and marketing campaigns.
According to the latest ABC results, The Economist reported its highest ever circulation of 182,539, up 5.6% year on year.
