UK radio ad revenues down

A Radio UK radio ad revenues were down about 13% year on year in October and November, according to a report.

The Advanced Radio Revenue Indicator figures show that national radio ad revenue was down 16% year on year in October and predicts it will be down 17% in November, said a report in Media Week.

Figures published by the RadioCentre at the start of September showed that the financial crisis was already taking effect in Q2 as national advertising revenue fell 15.9% year on year to £71.5 million, while local revenue was down 8.4% to £37 million (see Commercial Radio’s Revenue Falls).

“We did OK over the summer, but the decline in October and November is inevitable in a tough market and in the months where the two biggest players – GCap Media and Global Radio – were interviewing and streamlining their sales operation,” a source told Media Week.
