ABC Results Jan-Jun 2008:Glamour Takes The Lead In The Women’s Monthly Sector

Women's Magazines Conde Nast’s handbag sized women’s monthly Glamour remained the top title in the sector in the latest ABC release, for January to June 2008, up to just over 550,000 copies.

However, its NatMags rival, Cosmopolitan, is slowly catching up in second place, with around 470,000 copies, up 4.5% year on year.

NatMag’s Good Housekeeping slipped from second to third place, falling 7% period on period, giving it a total of just 430,000 copies.

Psychologies magazine saw the biggest increase in the latest figures, up by more than 15% year on year, to 150,000 copies.

H Bauer’s Spirit & Destiny fell by 10% year on year to 66,000 copies.

Bauer Consumer Media’s More! magazine recorded the largest overall change, down by a significant 37% year on year, falling to under 163,000 copies.

However, More! is set to get its second relaunch in a year, as Bauer hopes to attract an older, more sophisticated readership in an attempt to boost sales.

Bauer’s other women’s titles, Yours and Top Sante Health and Beauty, also saw year on year declines, with Top Sante Health and Beauty seeing the second largest percentage decline in the women’s monthly market.

The health title fell by over 15% year on year to under 93,000 copies, while Yours slipped just 2% year on year bringing its circulation to around 338,000 copies.

IPC Media’s woman&home saw circulation growth of 5% year on year, from 320,000 copies to 337,000 copies.

IPC Media’s Marie Claire was down nearly 5% year on year to around 317,000 copies, while its competitors Elle and Vogue both recorded slight increases.

Vogue saw a 0.5% year on year change, up to over 221,000 copies.

Elle also saw a slight increase of 0.1% year on year, despite seeing no change period on period, giving it a circulation of more than 203,000 copies.

NatMag’s Harpers Bazaar and Conde Nast’s Vanity Fair top-of-the range titles both saw year on year circulation increases.

Harpers Bazaar now has a circulation of over 109,000 copies, after a more than 3% year on year increase.

Vanity Fair also recorded a 3% year on year rise, bringing its total circulation to over 101,000 copies.

Two of the top three titles in the women’s monthly sector include the free magazines, Debenhams Desire and Source, posting circulations of 747,000 and 510,000 copies respectively.
