MySpace and Warner Music Entertainment have joined forces to launch a new online comedy channel, called MySpace Comedy UK.
The channel will host an online comedy platform developed by Warner, Comedybox.tv, which includes rare clips from well-known comedy acts as well as new acts, animations and user-generated content.
MySpace will be responsible for hosting the site and will retain advertising control, while Warner will take charge of the channel’s video content, according to reports.
However, the Comedybox label is set to be operated by Warner as a stand-alone entity.
Dom Cook, head of entertainment at MySpace UK, said: “MySpcae Comedy is another example of how MySpace continues to innovate and break new ground on the social web.”
MySpace UK have also partnered with Trident, the chewing gum brand, to launch the ‘MySpace Trident Comedy Awards’ – a competition for the best up-and-coming UK comedians.
The competition, which invites performers to submit short video-clips of their acts that will be voted on by the online MySpace community, is due to run until the end of September.
