Kiss Radio Signs Sam Branson As Green Ambassador

Branson Sam Branson, son of Sir Richard, is to present a series of shows for Kiss Radio in his new role as official green ambassador for the station.

Branson will host a special Kiss the Planet series on the Kiss Radio network throughout 2008. He will debut on the station in the breakfast show on March 27 to mark the start of a 1,400-mile dog sled expedition across the Canadian Arctic to highlight global warming.

During the trip Branson will report from the Arctic by blogging, photographing and broadcasting exclusively for Kiss. He will also compile a special radio show for broadcast on his return.

Branson said: “I approached Kiss to cover the trip because it reaches millions of people my kind of age. Kiss and I agreed it is the biggest issue of today but also that it can all get a bit technical like some boring science lesson.

“We thought it would be cool to do it together, kind of live and as it happens, so we can share the stories as we go along. Just as we’re all hooked on our favourite music, it would be great to get a few of listeners hooked on the trip, and what I’m doing.”

A new Kiss microsite (www.totalkiss.com/planet) dedicated to the project will compile a listener charter of eco friendly and green ideas through its What will you do? campaign, aimed at encouraging listeners to think more about the planet.

Kiss is also enlisting its presenters, clients, show guests and other celebrities to support the campaign both on and off air and listeners will also be able to email questions to Branson.

Steve Parkinson, MD Kiss radio Network, said: “Kiss listeners have told us that the future of the planet is incredibly important to them. We wanted to highlight the important message about global warming in a way that would be relevant and engaging to our listeners, so we’re delighted to welcome Sam on board as our first green ambassador.

“Kiss is the sound of young London and the undisputed biggest commercial broadcaster to the 15-34 age group who have a vital role to play in setting the green agenda of the future.”
