Times To Launch Prepaid Payment Card

The Times is to launch a prepaid payment card, following on from the ones offered by the Daily Mirror and the Sun.

The Times MasterCard prepaid card and ‘eccount’ is being launched by Tuxedo Money Solutions, which has provided similar cards for the News Of The World and the Sun, said a report on MediaGuardian.co.uk.

The service allows newspaper publishers the opportunity to build a database and extend their marketing activity.

The Times card functions as a credit or debit card but allows users to top up the value on the card from their ‘eccount’, which is intended to limit opportunities for fraud.

Up to £5,000 can be held in the eccount and moved on to the card by text, internet or phone as required. Times Media will market the card in newspapers and on their website.
