ITV To Offer On-Demand Archive Globally

ITV ITV is partnering with BT to offer its archive on-demand over the internet to international broadcasters.

According to a report in Broadcast, BT Media & Broadcast has developed a digital content store for ITV’s archive, based upon its BT Mosaic service.

This service will allow ITV to edit programmes for distribution across a variety of networks and devices directly to consumers and other broadcasters.

Local broadcasters will also be able to edit the programmes to fit with local customs and laws.

So far, BT has digitised 20,000 ITV programmes and the broadcaster has initially offered series such as Inspector Morse and The Saint as downloads through itv.com.

ITV technology director Richard Cross said to Broadcast: “It will enable ITV to reinvent its channels to market to reflect the way consumers – and other broadcasters – interact with content both in the UK and globally.

“The content store is the core platform that will enable ITV to flourish in the new, globalised, digital world.”
