BT Broadband Subscriber Numbers Increase

BT has revealed that it added 103,000 new broadband customers in the three months ending June 30, taking its total to 4.5 million.

The telecoms company also added 68,000 customers to its BT Vision service during the quarter.

BT said it had 282,000 BT Vision customers by the end of June, with more than 80% of the 68,000 new customers signing up to one or more subscription packages.

BT Retail enjoyed revenue growth of 3% and double digit profit growth for the period, while BT Global Services increased revenue by 13% with growth of 33% outside the UK.

Earlier this month it was revealed that the company is investing £1.5 billion into a programme to give up to ten million homes super-fast broadband by 2012 (see BT Plans Super-Fast Broadband).

The roll out of the fibre-based broadband will be the UK’s largest ever investment into the broadband at speeds of up to 100 Mb/s with the potential for speeds of more that 1,000 Mbs in the future.
