Daily Sport Gets Revamp

Sport The Daily Sport is undergoing a relaunch from Monday which will give it a lads’ mag outlook.

The relaunch will eventually see the paper get a new cover and a fresh news layout as well as extended football coverage, which are intended to give it the feel of magazines such as Nuts and Zoo.

The first phase of the revamp begins on Monday when adult advertising will appear in a separate supplement or at the back of the paper, leaving the first 19 news pages for mainstream advertisers. A major redesign of the newspapers will follow in April.

The Daily Sport‘s sister publication, the Sunday Sport will also be undergoing a relaunch.

The changes follow the purchase of Sport Newspaper Ltd by Interactive World Plc last September.

The Guardian quotes editor-in-chief, Barry McIlheney, former Emap executive responsible for launching Zoo and Heat, as saying that the relaunch is aiming to reposition the Daily Sport to place it where “other tabloids used to be before they… started trying to please everyone with a more feminine and gossipy stance”.

McIlheney has been working with James Brown, ex-editor of Loaded, on the new designs for the titles.

The Daily Sport posted its first ABC figure in January, of 101,653.
