BT Vision Hits 150,000 Subscribers

Bt Vision BT Vision has seen its subscriber numbers grow to more than 150,000 since its launch just over a year ago.

According to BT’s quarterly results released today, the broadband TV service finished 2007 with 120,000 customers and has since added more than 30,000.

BT Vision launched in 2006 (see Long Time Coming – BT’s Vision) and recently announced a tie-up with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 games console (see BT Vision And Microsoft In Xbox 360 Partnership).

BT also revealed that it signed up 177,000 broadband subscribers in the final quarter of 2007, taking its total to 4.25 million.

Meanwhile, the telecoms giant’s financial results show that its pre-tax profits fell 30% to £447 million while revenues rose 1% to £5.15 billion.

Ben Verwaayen, BT chief executive, said: “This has been another solid performance. We have delivered our 23rd consecutive quarter of year on year earnings per share growth.

“We remain the UK’s number one retail broadband provider with 35% of the installed DSL and LLU base, and BT Vision customers more than doubled in the quarter.”

At the end of last year, reports suggested that mobile phone company 02 was planning to extend its Czech broadband TV service to the UK (see 02 Could Launch Broadband TV Service).

Meanwhile, Orange is planning its own service by the end of March, and the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 recently announced plans for a huge collaborative VoD platform (see Feature: Content-Rich Kangaroo Looks To Dominate VoD Market).
