May TV viewing data shows that ITV1’s share suffered a slight year on year dip, despite the success of shows such as Britain’s Got Talent.
ITV1’s viewing share fell 0.4 percentage points year on year, to leave it at 19.3% in May 2009.
The channel had some big hits in May, however, with the final of Britain’s Got Talent grabbing a peak of 18.5 million viewers while its FA Cup coverage also did well (see 18.5m watch Britain’s Got Talent results show).
BBC1’s share suffered a fall of 1.6 percentage points, leavins its total at 20%, although its 80s time travelling cop show Ashes to Ashes continued to perform well (see Ashes to Ashes triumphs with 5.7 million viewers).
BBC Two and Channel 4 were both down by 0.6 percentage points in May, to 7.2% and 6.7% respectively.
It was a good month for Five, which managed to increase its share slightly, by 0.1 percentage point year on year, to 5%.
Other channels were up 3.1 percentage points year on year, to 41.3%.
Five also performed well in digital homes, recording a 0.2 percentage point increase, taking its share to 4.8%.
ITV1 was down 0.3 percentage points to 18.3%, while Channel 4 and BBC Two were down 0.4 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points respectively.
Channel 4 now has a 6% share of viewing in digital homes while BBC Two’s share stands at 6.4%.
BBC One’s viewing share in digital homes fell 1.4 percentage points year on year to 18.9%.
Other channels in saw their viewing share increase by 2.3 percentage points to 44.9%.
