Live UEFA Champions League steals the show

Mistresses ITV1’s coverage of the Live UEFA Champions League match between Inter Milan and Manchester United stole the show last night, beating BBC One’s Mistresses to the top spot during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot.

More than 8.3 million peak viewers tuned in to see the goalless draw, securing ITV1 with a respectable 26.7% average audience share between 7.30pm and 10pm.

However, the commercial broadcaster failed to hold the peak audience throughout the whole game – BBC One’s Eastenders banked the highest ratings during the 7.30pm to 8pm slot, with 8.3 million average viewers and an impressive 35.6% audience share.

The last 15 minutes of Mistresses also secured the peak audience with 4.6 million viewers – although the rest of the BBC One popular peak-time drama was overshadowed by the football.

Elsewhere, Five’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation attracted 2.6 million average viewers and a 10.9% share, while BBC Two’s Horizon – The Secret Life of Your Bodyclock – pulled in 2.3 million average viewers and a 9.6% share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, the last in the series of Channel 4’s controversial Boys and Girls Alone fly-on-the-wall documentary picked up just 1.2 million average viewers and a 5.2% audience share.
