Siemens Wins £2bn Deal From BBC Technology

The BBC has announced today that information technology group, Siemens, which acquired the BBC’s technology division in July, has been awarded a 10 year deal which will see the German based group delivering the Corporations technology services for the next ten years.

The £2 billion two-part deal, which covers the purchase of BBC Technology and the decade-long contract, will see Siemens Business Services working closely with BBC Technology Direction, which is responsible for the public service broadcasters technology strategy and development.

Chief operating office, John Smith said: “This deal married both our legendary broadcasting experience in making great programmes with the resource and expertise of a global IT player – ensuring the BBC can achieve its Building Public Value vision to secure our digital future.”

He added: “The value and substantial savings created from the sale of BBC Technology and this procurement of our technology services is a significant step for us in ensuring the BBC is fit for the future and continues to create innovative programmes.”
