Metro International Sees Strong End To 2005

Metro International has released its full year financial results for 2005, revealing an increase in sales of 19% across the group.

The newspaper firm has seen a good performance from the 16 new editions launched during the last 12 months, with total daily circulation rising by 19% to 7.6 million copies around the world.

Metro International’s total daily readership now stands at an impressive 18.5 million per day according to figures from TNS for the final quarter of the year, with advertisers capitalising on the increased audience as ad clients using eight or more Metro countries rose by 76%, from 25 to 44 advertisers.

The full year results follow a hectic 12 months for the publisher, which has launched into Portugal and Russia, as well as expanding its existing operations in France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Commenting on the company’s results, Greg Miall, director of global sales, said: “Metro International’s continued growth has been driven by a huge increase in multi-market clients. More and more advertisers are seeing the benefits of reaching 18-40 year-olds across Europe easily and efficiently with a single campaign.”

Metro International currently publishes 61 editions of its newspaper in 88 major cities in 19 countries and in 18 languages across Europe, North & South America and Asia.
