ITV Chairman Expected To Go

Rumours that ITV chairman Sir Peter Burt will quit once Charles Allen’s replacement at the broadcaster has been found have escalated, sources have told the trade press.

Sources have said that Burt is not enjoying the role and wants to leave as soon as possible, whilst the ITV board is said to be split over how the broadcaster should move forward. In August, it was rumoured that Burt was unhappy, but the chairman is said to be increasingly troubled by the situation.

There is apparently unease over the length of time being taken to recruit Charles Allen’s replacement as chief executive. Allen officially stood down a week ago and finance director John Cresswell is acting as chief executive.

One reason for the issues could be the gardening leave enforced upon the leading candidate, Stephen Carter, by his former employer, Ofcom.

ITV’s share price has crept back up to over the 100p mark in the past few days, amid rumours that a private equity group could make a bid for the broadcaster. Last week the company referred the controvertial Contract Rights Renewal policy to the Office of Fair Trading for review in a bid to get it scrapped.
