Duffy Could Leave NTL Next Week

NTL could be ready to announce the departure of Simon Duffy, its executive vice-chairman and former head next week, according to a report in today’s Times.

Duffy’s contract expires on January 15 and, according to the report, it will be revealed in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday that it is not to be renewed.

Duffy joined NTL as chief operating officer in 2003 and was made chief executive four months later, before being ousted as group head in 2005 in a move thought to have been triggered by pressure from investors.

In November, ITV rejected a takeover bid from NTL (see ITV Rejects NTL Merger Bid), saying that there was “little, if any, strategic logic for ITV to combine with NTL.”
