Hytner To Join Top Up TV

Hytner To Join Top Up TV

Jim Hytner, group brand and marketing director at Barclays, is to leave the bank in November to take up the role of commercial director at Top Up TV.

His departure will see Deanna Oppenheimer, currently chief executive of retail banking, take charge of the marketing department before a decision is made on the banks long-term structure.

Hytner joined Barclays in 2004, having resigned as marketing and commercial director of ITV where he was credited with rebranding ITV in the run up to the £5.6 billion merger of Carlton and Granada (see Hytner Quits ITV After Three Years To Join Barclays).

Top Up TV began in 2003, allowing Freeview customers to view extra channels for a monthly subscription. Top Up TV currently carries 21 channels and is adding Setanta Sports.

There had been rumours earlier this year that Hytner could return to a role at ITV following the departure of Ian McCulloch as commercial director (see Hytner Could Return To ITV).

Top Up TV could soon be going head-to-head with Sky following the satellite broadcaster’s recent announcement that it will offer its own pay-TV channels on the Freeview platform, subject to agreement by Ofcom.
