BT Announces £613m Profit In Q1

BT has announced that it made a first quarter profit of £613 million, down 7%, on revenues of £5.17 billion.

BT Global Services increased revenue by 13% with growth of 33% outside the UK, while BT Retail recorded revenue growth of 3% and double digit profit growth.

The company added 103,000 new broadband customers in the three months ending June 30, taking its total to 4.5 million broadband customers.

The telecoms company also added 68,000 customers to its BT Vision service during the quarter.

By the end of the month BT said it had 282,000 BT Vision customers, with more than 80% of the 68,000 new customers signing up to one or more subscription packages.

Ian Livingston, BT chief executive said: “We are committed to delivering long term shareholder value and will continue to invest in the future growth of our business. We have announced plans to invest £1.5 billion to make fibre-based, super-fast broadband available to as many as 10 million homes in the UK by 2012, dependent upon an appropriate regulatory environment.

Our full year guidance remains unchanged – we continue to expect to deliver growth in revenue, EBITDA, earnings per share and dividends per share in this financial year.”
