According to the May edition of the Forrester research Online Retail Index, total US spending on online sales decreased from $4.3 billion in April to $3.9 billion in May.
This was due largely to a seasonal drop in online travel bookings and a drop in the number of US households shopping online – down to 14.8 million in May from 15.7 million in April. Consumers spent an average of $265 per person in May, compared with $273 in April.
