Pace And OpenTV To Develop High-End Digital Cable

Telecommunications hardware developer, Pace Microtechnology, and interactive television and media company, OpenTV, are to jointly develop high-end digital cable technology worldwide, the two companies have announced.

Pace will port OpenTV’s broadband offering onto its cable home gateway. OpenTV’s broadband portfolio includes its interactive TV Middleware, EN2, integrated with Device Mosaic?, a standards-based HTML browser specifically developed for the TV market and already deployed in more than seven million television receivers worldwide, the companies said.

EN2 Middleware enables full two-way communications between a network and a viewer’s set-top box and has been selected by eight broadband cable TV networks worldwide. Device Mosaic? enables the internet to be delivered to television sets.

Pace’s gateway system allows cable operators to provide advanced interactive TV services, including video on demand, high-speed internet access and voice via Net. It is used in the UK by NTL and Telewest.

James Ackerman, OpenTVÂ’s CEO, said: “This new partnership will see us work together to develop new high-end digital cable television products.”
