Virgin Radio Leads Internet Stations Listening, According To MeasureCast

Listening to internet radio showed strong growth during 2001, with the UK’s Virgin Radio London the second most listened to station, according to data from MeasureCast released this week. Virgin was not surveyed for the whole year, however, and early January data suggest that the station takes the spot as the most listened to on the survey.

The US-based internet audience measurement company says that the total time listening to stations rose by almost 400% last year and is rapidly close to hitting 500% growth at the present time.

Internet-only station MEDIAmazing (www.mediamazing.com) streamed more hours of music to listeners than any other station on the MeasureCast survey during 2001. London’s Jazz FM made third place in the table.

“The internet radio industry is on a roll. Streaming broadcasters attracted millions of new listeners in 2001,” said MeasureCast CEO Ed Hardy.
