European Broadband Growth Will Drive Online Gaming Consoles

Gaming consoles will not succeed in offering a myriad bolt-on functions, such as MP3 players, personal video recorders (PVR) and hubs for digital cameras, but they will benefit from broadband connections to the internet, allowing online console gaming to take off.

This is the message from Game Consoles Connect – a new report by Forrester Research. The success of next generation consoles and online games will be driven by entertainment-focused broadband service, says the report.

There will be 10 million European households with the technology to play online games by 2006; the online gaming explosion will occur in 2005 when 12.7 million households will have the necessary technology to play online games. By 2006, 24% of European households will have broadband access, forecasts the report.
