60 Million Text Messages Per Month In UK By The End Of 2002, Says MDA
January figures from the Mobile Data Association indicate that the growth in popularity of SMS messaging recorded in 2001 is set to continue this year. 1.4 billion text messages were sent in the UK in January and the UK average daily figure for messages sent across the four UK GSM network operators is now 45 million compared to only 29.9 in January 2001.
This amounts to almost 1 message per person per day. Total UK text messages sent in the UK in 2002 is forecast to be 60 million per month by the end of 2002 according to MDA.
