Home Networking Set For Major Growth

Almost one-third of US broadband households are interested in purchasing a home networking product this year, according to new research from Parks Associates.

Broadband Access @ Home III, a national survey of internet usage, revealed that 28.2% of broadband subscribers are likely to adopt a home network in the next year. This system allows multiple PC users to surf the internet simultaneously via the same connection. Two-thirds of internet households with a home network said that this facility was the main reason for subscribing to the service.

“There is little doubt that demand for home networking is finally ramping up,” said Michael Greeson, senior analyst and director of broadband research for Parks Associates. “At least three million US internet households will purchase data-centric home networks in 2003, thanks in large part to the aggressive marketing efforts of service providers and retailers alike, as well as strong consumer interest in networking content.”
