UK Media Company Failures Fall In Q2, Rise Over H1

The number of media companies going bust in the UK fell by 14% year on year in the second quarter, according to the latest data from business solutions company Experian.

The group surveyed 34 different industry sectors and found that only 10 recorded a rise in business failures during the quarter. The most significant declines in business collapses were in the IT sector, which fell by 33%, and the post and telecommunications sector, which was down by 37%.

In the media sector, 132 companies failed during Q2, down from 154 for the same period in 2002. Across the whole of the first half, however, the figure was up by 4.9%, from 284 failures last year to 298 this time.
