55% Of US Internet Users Are Using Broadband

Nearly 70 million Americans access the internet using a high-speed connection according to a new report from the Pew Internet & American Life project.

As of February 2004, 34% of the total US adult population, accounting for 55% of adult internet users in the US, had access to broadband at home.

Cable currently has the largest share of the home broadband market but Pew says that a growing number of users are adopting DSL and this has pushed the rise in broadband.

The main reason why those surveyed had switched to broadband were sited as speed of dial-up (36%) and faster file downloads (21%).
