US Leads TV Technologies Uptake

The US is currently leading the world in the adoption of television related products, with a new survey from Parks Associates showing the region to be enjoying strong growth in the uptake of technologies such as PVRs and digital cable.

Europe was revealed to be generally placed behind North America and developed Asian countries, such as Japan, in adoption of consumer technologies, while Taiwan and South Korea led the way in terms of computer related technologies.

Commenting on the report’s findings, John Barrett, director of research at Parks Associates said: “Each nation has particular strengths and weaknesses in terms of technology adoption.”

Barrett continued: “Canada, for instance, is a very impressive market for home networking while Japan is the undisputed champion for mobile phones, with over one-half of all Japanese households using mobile phone features like e-mail or photo messaging every month. Of course long commute times in Japan encourage the use of mobile phone entertainment features.”

According to new research released by Strategy Analytics mobile phone users in Japan are predicted to spend $28 billion on mobile data products by 2010, up from almost $17 billion this year, fuelled by the strong growth exhibited by the Japanese download market (see Japanese Mobile Users Forecast To Spend $28 Billion By 2010).

Asia Pacific remains the world’s primary growth region for wireless networks, with Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan forecast to catch up with Japan and South Korea thanks to the recent 3G network launches, according to eMarketer (see Asia Pacific Remains Strongest Growth In Wireless Arena).
