Search Advertising Sales To Reach $13.6 Billion In 2006

Global search advertising sales are expected to grow by an estimated 40% this year to $13.6 billion. By comparison, global brand ad sales are expected to be up 25% for the year, an increase of $11.7 billion, according to analysts at Piper Jaffray.

However, Reprise Media have said that marketers are failing to embrace the search engine marketing trend, with advertisers ignoring it in their marketing campaigns (see Marketers Fail To Harness Search Marketing Potential).

Although the estimates, revealed by Piper Jaffray at its Global Internet Summit, a three day meeting of media executives and investors, show that after 2007 sales growth will begin to favour display ads over search.

In addition, internet brand advertising is predicted to benefit from the rise of video consumption online with advertisers looking to sites such as YouTube, and more and more companies will decide to move a greater percentage of their ad budgets online and away from traditional markets (see Commitment To Online Marketing Increases).

A recent report by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) showed that online advertising revenues reached a record $3.9 billion in the first quarter of 2006 (see Online Adspend Almost $4 Billion In Q1).
