Financial services sites most popular among older European mobile subscribers

Financial services sites are the most popular among European mobile subscribers older than 55, according to a report from comScore.

comScore found that teenagers are more likely to visit social networking, entertainment and even comic sites on their mobile devices.

Unsurprisingly, younger users tend to access any internet content much more frequently than their older counterparts.

Older mobile internet users skew towards practical, utilitarian sites, such as those providing financial services, weather and traffic information.

Younger users, on the other hand, use their mobile phones more to access social network sites and entertainment content. Categories such as search, weather and news are universally popular, and social networking is the most popular type of content for all subscribers under 35.

For those 35 to 44, search is the most popular activity, while weather is the top site category among those over 55 years of age.

In March, Informa Telecoms & Media forecast that the mobile content and services market is predicted to generate over $340 billion in end-user service revenues in 2013, up from around $183 billion in 2008 (see Growth in user spend on mobile entertainment to slow over next two years).

Juniper Research, meanwhile, recently reported that direct and indirect revenues from mobile applications are expected to top $25 billion globally by 2014 (see Revenues from mobile applications expected to top $25bn by 2014).
