Richard Eyre shortlisted for C4 chairman role

Channel 4

Richard Eyre, the former chief executive of ITV, is understood to be in the running for Channel 4’s chairman role.

Eyre has reportedly been shortlisted for the role along with Lord Alli, co-founder of the production company behind The Big Breakfast and current chairman of Chorion and ASOS.com.

However, Ofcom is still thought to be looking for a woman to replace the current Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson.

So far, a number a female candidates have turned down the chance, including chief executive of Pearson Majorie Scardino and chief exec of Camelot, Dianne Thompson.

Up to five candidates are expected to take part in the interview process this week, with a final decision likely within the next month.

Eyre has the right experience for the job, having been chief executive of ITV in the late 1990s, then chairman and CEO of Pearson Television and more recently chairman of GCap Media.

He also holds a number of non-executive roles and is the chairman of the IAB.
