Twitter has joined forces with handheld messaging company Peek to launch its first mobile device.

TwitterPeek, which is available exclusively on Amazon, will enable people to tweet on the go without needing a smartphone or a data plan from their mobile phone network.

The new device, which costs $99 as well as a monthly fee of $7.95, has a 2.7 inch x 4 inch colour screen and a full Qwerty keyboard.  It does not require WiFi as it runs on a high-speed wireless data network.

TwitterPeek offers consumers unlimited tweets and direct messages, as well as Twitpic images and an instant tweet delivery service.

Peek’s CEO, Amol Sarva, said: “TwitterPeek will make it easy and affordable for everyone who doesn’t have a smartphone to really enjoy Twitter on-the-go.

“Twitter die-hards will appreciate its ‘always-on’ instant tweet delivery and newbies will finally ‘get Twitter’ once they have TwitterPeek in hand.  Even businesses that Twitter will dig TwitterPeek as a convenient way to stay connected with their customers.”
