The overwhelming majority of Americans (92%) use multiple platforms – including national TV, local TV, the internet, local newspapers, radio and national newspapers – to get news on a typical day, according to new research from the Pew Research Center.

Some 46% of Americans say they get news from four to six media platforms on a typical day, while just 7% get their news from a single media platform.

A recent survey from comScore for the Newspaper Association of America revealed that newspaper websites are the most used and valued sites for consumers seeking credible and trustworthy local content and advertising online.

Approximately 57% of the 3,050 respondents said local newspaper websites were the top online source for local information – ahead of the totals for all other media.

The Pew Research Center also found that:

  • 33% of mobile phone owners now access news on their mobiles
  • 28% of internet users have customised their home page to include news from sources and on topics that particularly interest them
  • 37% of internet users have contributed to the creation of news, commented about it, or posted it on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.
