Apple has sold a million iPads since its introduction on April 3, despite delays to its international launch.
“One million iPads in 28 days: that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with the iPhone,” said Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs.
“Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
The company was forced to delay its UK launch after being inundated with demand for the new product in the US. However, Apple expects to launch the iPad in the UK by the end of this month.
So far, US users have downloaded more than 12 million apps for the iPad and over 1.5 million e-books from Apple’s new iBookstore.
In the last month, 5,000 new apps have been created specifically for the device, which adds to the existing 200,000-strong App Store.
