New research shows strong growth in US mobile subscribers using web

New research reveals that during February to the end of April 2010, 31.1% of US mobile subscribers used mobile web browsers in an average month, up 2.5 percentage points on the previous three month period.

comScore found that subscribers who used downloaded applications made up 29.8% of the mobile audience, an increase of 3.1 percentage points.

Social network and blog access via mobile also grew, up 2.8 percentage points to 19.9%.

According to Strategy Analytics figures, sales of internet enabled smartphones soared in Q1 2010, up 54% year on year to 55 million units.

And Analysys Mason has predicted that the number of smartphones in use worldwide will grow at an annual rate of 32% between 2010 and 2014.

Text messaging also saw growth among US mobile subscribers, said comScore, with a 1.1 percentage point increase taking usage to 64.6%.
