TV Overnights: Who Do You Think You Are? secures peak slot again

BBC One’s Who Do You Think You Are? has secured the peak slot of 9pm to 10pm for the second week running.

The documentary, which looked at actor Rupert Everett’s ancestry, managed an average viewing figure of 5.4 million, and a 22.2% share. This is down on last weeks edition, which achieved over 7 million viewers, and a 27.6% share.

ITV1’s Identity, airing during the same slot, managed to attract a peak of over 4 million viewers, before settling for a 3.5 million average, and a share of 14.6% – down on last weeks 4.2 million average, and 17.4% share.

Meanwhile, Channel 4’s new series The Hospital secured 1.7 million viewers and a 7.3% share, while BBC Two’s Dragon’s Den achieved 2.7 million viewers and a 11.2% share. Five trailed behind with Ronin, with 1.2 million viewers and a 5.9% share.

Earlier in the evening, ITV1 dominated with its soaps lineup. Emmerdale, airing at 7pm, attracted an average viewing figure of 6.6 million, and a share of 33.2%. The first episode of Coronation Street, airing at 7.30pm, secured 8.3 million viewers and a 37.6% share, while the second episode, at 8.30pm, managed 8.1 million and 34.7%.

BBC One briefly took over at 8pm, with Eastenders attracting over 9 million viewers, and a share of 38.9%.

Daytime ratings were mostly balanced between BBC One and ITV1, with BBC One claiming the morning slots and ITV1 stepping in during the afternoon.  However, Channel 4 secured the top spot on two occasions yesterday, with Deal or No Deal at 4.10pm and again with the end of Big Brother at 10.45pm.
