According to the USC Annenberg Digital Future Study, 82% of Americans are now using the internet.
The average time online for US internet users has now reached a peak of 19 hours per week. By comparison, the average time was 9.4 hours per week in 2000.
The report showed that 100% of those aged under 24 went online, whereas 19% of respondents aged 46-55 did not use the internet, and 15% of respondents aged 36-45 were non-users.
82% of users now have broadband access – significantly increasing from the 10% using it in 2000.
Internet users report that they are actively going online nine hours per week at work on average. 57% of the respondents who use the internet at work said they also sometimes or often go online at home for their jobs.
65% of internet users shop online, and buy an average of 35.2 purchases a year. Despite the recession, this is an increase on the 45% who shopped online in 2000.
