In the US, one circulation metric that wasn’t down year on year during the first half of 2010 was the total number of e-edition subscribers, according to paidContent.org.
Leading the pack was the Wall Street Journal, which has almost 450,000 electronic subscribers (up 10% year on year). Detroit Free Press followed in second place, before the New York Times in third place.
In what has been dubbed “the year of the tablet” since the release of Apple’s iconic iPad, more and more devices continue to launch, helping to boost digital reading. The recent release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the “NookColor” is set to re-start the much-talked about ‘tablet war’.
Please note paidContent.org’s e-edition category includes digital replicas, online-only subscriptions, Kindle subscriptions, and products like Times Reader.
