The number of global broadband subscribers grew to 763 million in 2010, according to In-Stat.
There was a continued growth rate of 25% in broadband subscribers worldwide from 2007 to 2009, although this is likely to drop to 10% by 2014 as the broadband market matures. However, the Asia/Pacific region will continue to see high growth rates.
The primary market driver is the demand for high-speed internet connection, particularly since the rise in popularity and availability of bandwidth-intensive applications including downloading music files and watching online video.
Mobile wireless growth has also exceeded expectations due to the rise of 3G and 4G services, In-Stat said.
