Yahoo! is set to develop a publishing platform for applications that will allow users to get personalised content on their mobiles and tablets.
Yahoo!’s chief executive is expected to unveil the plans at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.
It is understood that the customised content will be comparable to similar products such as the iPad app Flipboard. AOL has also announced plans to launch a personalised iPad magazine application called Editions.
The Yahoo! platform will use content from a user’s preferences, search items, social media and other sources, according to reports in the New York Times.
It will be available on Yahoo!’s website but will be optimised to work as an app for tablet devices and smartphones, – working with Google’s Android and Apple’s operating software.
