MAGNA Global has published its latest edition of On-Demand Quarterly report, stating that by the end of 2016 it forecasts that DVR subscriber households in the US will reach 61.9 million (50% of TV households), up from 39.2 million (33.5% of TV households) as of the end of the Q4 2010.
By 2016, it expects that Video On Demand – which now include Over-the-Top services in its definition – will reach 70.1 million households (approximately 57% of television households). This compares with 52.5 million VOD households (45% of total TV households) at the end of Q4 2010.
Approximately 84.7 million homes – 71.5% of the total – were online at the end Q4 2010; 90% of these homes accessed the internet using broadband services. MAGNA Global’s long-term internet access forecasts now predicts 99.4 million households to be online in 2016, of which 97.9 million will be via broadband.
