Mobile phone manufacture Sony Ericsson has signed a deal worth €1.05 billion to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony.

The deal allows Sony to integrate the partner’s smartphones into their other network-connected devices, such as, tablets, televisions and personal computers in what they are calling a ‘four-screen strategy’.

Sony’s chairman and CEO said: “This acquisition makes sense for Sony and Ericsson, and it will make the difference for consumers, who want to connect with content wherever they are, whenever they want.”

President and CEO of Ericsson, Hans Vestberg, added: “We will now enhance our focus on enabling connectivity for all devices, using R&D and industry leading patent portfolio to realise a truly connected world.”
