Mobile TV on the rise

The number of users streaming mobile TV on their smartphones will increase to 240 million by 2014, according to Juniper Research.

The new research claims that the increase will be driven by a rise in smartphone penetration and the increase of live and on-demand services on TVs and PCs.

Another key driver is the demand for viewers to access key content live, such as news and sports. Juniper predicts that nearly a tenth of mobile TV revenues will be generated on tablet devices with subscriptions making up the vast majority of mobile TV revenues by 2016.

However, the report suggests that the use of broadcast mobile TV will be minimal outside of the Far East and China.
