Sky has upgraded the electronic programme guide (EPG) for Sky+HD, featuring a small video screen in the top right corner, new fonts, and new colours.
The new EPG, originally due to launch last September, is being rolled out progressively across Sky HD boxes. The previous guide has been in use since the launch of Sky digital satellite television over 10 years ago.
In a change from the norm, Newsline asked Evie Jones, aged 13, for a kid’s view of the revamped EPG…
“My review of the new Sky HD TV guide layout is mainly that it is very similar to the Freeview layout. For me, the old layout seems to suit Sky HD better but I still like it changed, so the new one is good.
“There is no difference in most of the TV guide, apart from being able to see the programme you were watching in a small screen in the corner and sometimes you now have to press different things to get off or on to programmes.
“If you record a series it stores them all in one place and when you press select you can see all the episodes you have, so that saves space and seems more organised.
“The downside of it for me is speed. On my planner there are lots of programmes recorded and it seems slower. Also when you first use it you can’t press up to get to the most recent recording anymore; you have to go down them all to get to it. Then I discovered that pressing channel up or down is the new way to get over this. I hope everybody else finds that!
“Overall, I think it is a good change but a little too similar to the Virgin and Freeview guides.”
