AA Appoints Lund As New Chairman

AA Logo The Advertising Association (AA) has announced the election of Mark Lund, chief executive of Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners, as its new chairman-elect following the decision by current chairman, David Kershaw, chief executive of M&C Saatchi, to stand down at the end of March 2006.

In announcing his intention, Kershaw suggested Lund as his successor, prompting a unanimous agreement from the AA’s council. Lund will take over as chairman as from 3 April 2006.

Commenting on his appointment, Lund said: “This is a great honour and a considerable task. I am privileged to follow in the footsteps of some people I admire very much and to work with Andrew Brown for whom I have great regard. I am also aware that this is a pivotal time for advertising and I am looking forward to being part of the AA’s contribution to its continued well-being.”

Kershaw added: “Mark is the ideal person to take over as the AA’s Chairman. Not only has he built a terrific agency but he has always been extremely active in defending the right to advertise within the context of responsible self-regulation.”

Andrew Brown, director general of the AA, was also supportive, stating that Lund’s “wider commitment to the business” was a welcome addition, and that the AA “has always been fortunate in having outstanding individuals from the agency sector agreeing to serve as its Chairman.”

Lund follows previous chairmen Jeremy Bullmore, Martin Boase, Winston Fletcher, James Best and, David Kershaw.

Earlier this week the AA released its latest long-term forecast, compiled by the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC), predicting a substantial rise of up to 43% in advertising expenditure between now and 2017 (see AA Forecasts Point To Ad Expenditure Growth).
